Astronaut Training
Astronaut Training (Vestibular–Visual–Auditory Integration)
At In2Gr8 Pediatric Therapy, we offer the Astronaut Training Protocol, an advanced, evidence-informed intervention designed to improve vestibular, visual, and auditory processing integration. This specialized program was developed by Vital Links and is used by trained therapists to support children who struggle with regulation, attention, coordination, and sensory processing. This is not simply “spinning” or sensory play. It is a structured, sequential protocol designed to strengthen how the brain processes and integrates movement, sound, and visual input — foundational systems that support learning and behavior.
What Is the Vestibular System — and Why Does It Matter?
- The vestibular system (located in the inner ear) is responsible for:
- Balance
- Postural control
- Coordination
- Visual tracking
- Spatial awareness
- Regulation and attention
- When this system is not functioning efficiently, children may experience:
- Motion sensitivity or gravitational insecurity
- Difficulty sitting still
- Poor coordination or clumsiness
- Challenges with reading and visual tracking
- Emotional dysregulation
- Delays in motor planning

How the Protocol Works
- The program uses carefully controlled rotary input combined with specific visual tracking and auditory components. Each child’s response is closely monitored to ensure their nervous system is adapting appropriately.
- Intervention may include:
- Structured rotary movement on specialized equipment
- Guided visual tracking exercises
- Auditory integration components
- Post-rotary integration activities
- Functional carryover into daily motor and attention tasks
Who May Benefit?
- Astronaut Training may be appropriate for children with:
- Sensory processing challenges
- ADHD or attention difficulties
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Reflex integration delays
- Motor coordination challenges
- Postural instability
- Visual tracking or reading difficulties
- Regulation challenges
Our Philosophy
- We believe in addressing underlying neurological foundations — not just surface-level behaviors. When vestibular, visual, and auditory systems work together more efficiently, children often demonstrate improvements in:
- Attention
- Emotional regulation
- Motor coordination
- Confidence
- Academic participation
- The Astronaut Training Protocol is one of the advanced tools we use to help children build stronger neurological integration and functional independence.
What Makes Our Approach Different
- At In2Gr8 Pediatric Therapy:
- The protocol is delivered by trained professionals
- It is integrated into a comprehensive OT plan of care
- Progress is measured and individualized
- Parent education and carryover strategies are included
- We prioritize nervous system regulation — never overstimulation
- We do not apply a “one-size-fits-all” sensory model. Each child’s neurological response guides intervention decisions.
